MY GOD! I cannot believe some of the other reviews for this item! Complaints because it does not have an Eject Button on the remote control?!!! Have we become so bloody lazy in the U.S. that we cannot get off our butt and press the Eject Button on the face of the machine! Give me a break! I purchased my unit earlier this year through Amazon and while it was a little difficult to understand the different functions at first it has worked wonderfully since then. Yes, from time to time it will not switch from DVD to VCR without pressing the VCR Eject Button to re-set the machine, at the US.99 I paid for the unit it is a small price to pay. I have owned both Philips and Philips/Magnavox TV's, VCR's and DVD Players since the 1980's and have found them all to be very durable and long lasting if treated with respect. DVD Picture and Sound are fine on this machine and the Picture and Sound on the VCR are really dependant on the tape quality being played or recorded upon. I believe this is an exellent piece for the cost and would recomend it to those looking for an inexpensive DVD/VCR Combo!

I bought this as a graduation gift for myself and in less than 3 years the VCR started eating tapes! Now, some might say that happens - but my last VCR was purchased in 1984 and lasted until 2002! 3 years is not a good quality product IMO!

I've owned one for about three years and I still use it quite a bit. I'm not so sure about the excessive noise issue, but then I'm not especially picky really so perhaps it's attrocious by audiophile standards and I just don't know it.br /br /It is very much like a DVD player and a VCR separately only in less space - push a button and it becomes the other rather then an integrated solution for both. It does seem to support DVD+-R, VCD, SVCD pretty ok (though some (S)VCD encodings can throw it off) including reading CDR/CDRW and DVD+-RW, which is always handy. It is approaching obsoleteness a bit in my sphere of caring, but I consider it a good backup for old collections. It does seem a bit "in the raw", possibly with the abillity to confuse people who aren't that used to higher technology with the state switches between VCR/DVD and being a little obscure about bookmarks, chapters, etc. It's not exactly a steep learning curve for someone growing up in the gadget generation, but I would hesistate to recommend it to people who require extreme levels of user-friendliness and very elaborate explanations about what to do when rather then just probing out what might work reflexivly until it becomes obvious.

DVDs Don't Play Through Without Freezing! - ratman - Reston, VA
I've played about 6-7 DVD rentals in this machine that have frozen. (I've tried to rewind to right past the freeze/skip spot, but it's very difficult; if I go right before that spot and hit the Play button, it freezes again and skips to the next scene!) At first, I thought the problem was the DVDs. (I returned them for a rental fee refund.) Then I found out those same DVDs play fine in my other DVD player (a Pioneer model). (And I've cleaned the DVDs to ensure there's not a spot on them.) This is the third Samsung product I've bought that's been defective (the other two were cameras). Never again!

This is an excellent vcr i did not by it new but second hand and i couldnt be happier it is a little bit noiser then my previous vcr but it has smooth picuter and excellent sound and good tracking i couldnt be happier with this machine it looks great on my new lcd tv So if anyone is looking for a decent dvd vcr combo its great not as good as m pro vcrs downstairs but pretty close so i give this machine an A++ great for a second room in your house

Sad That Magnavox Is No Longer A Trusted Name! - S. Garth - USA
I gave this a one star because there is no way to give a negative number of stars! We bought a total of 4 of these all the exact same. Less than 6 months later EVERY one of them has bit the dust. The first one the VCR went out followed by the DVD and all the others the DVDs went out. 5 months later, 4 machines and we have 1 left that the VCR works on (and not well!). 1 year warranty is a joke. The 800 number is a recording that will tell you that for that product number you have to visit the website. The website has the model number listed and when you click on it says that information is no longer available. I have kept boxes, receipts, and owners manuals and the only thing that it seems like they are going to be good for is the recycle bin! Sad that what used to be reliable brand names have fallen by the way side!

My parents bought this. When my father had trouble setting it up he asked me to try. Neither of us could find an input connection for the VCR. I finally found a notation in the manual about connecting a camcorder or other device to the recorder, but nothing about TV.

Let me start this review by saying that I ran across this item at a QVC Outlet store and it was EXTREMELY inexpensive - about . I had never had TiVo before so I figured for that price - "what the hell?" That said, since then I've added another Series2 TiVo to my home and just love TiVo...br /br /The Good:br /- I've seen other reviews of this product that criticize the remote, but I really like it. It is fairly large, but the layout of the nav and select buttons is very intuitive. That said, there are about 20 buttons that I never use.br /- TiVo in general, rules. Not so much specific to this product, but I, like numerous others before me, agree that "TiVo will change your life". The days of scheduling time home for your own "must see TV" are over - watch it when you have time, skip the filler and commercials!br /- Wireless TiVo (Home Media Option) is excellent - I had NO PROBLEMS getting this set up on my wireless network (unlike some other reviewers). One key is to follow TiVo's recommendation for wireless adapters TO THE LETTER. Plain-jane USB wireless adapters won't work - buy one of the recommended models. Once set up, you can stream music from your PC and view your digital pictures through the TiVo, two excellent features. br /- My unit has worked flawlessly since I got it - no freezes, crashes or other problems.br /br /The Bad:br /- I'm really irritated by the DVD copy protection setup on this unit. If you want to watch a DVD, you can't have a VCR inline or the Macrovision copy protection is triggered, brightening and darkening the screen to deter taping of DVD's. Problem is, there's a good chance you might want to tape some shows from your TiVo, which means you need to jury-rig a setup to work around this nasty little problem. It's kind of moronic, which is typical of the Movie industry.br /- Switching from TiVo mode to DVD mode takes too long. br /- It's a fairly large unit, depthwise, and you may want to measure your cabinets before purchase. Mine was slightly too shallow and I needed to get the drill out for "modifications" in order to make it fit.br /- This is one of the few TiVo models that has "Basic TiVo" built-in. Admittedly, Basic TiVo is an extremely hobbled version of the full TiVo service, but if you don't want to spend the money each month, this can be a nice feature. In addition, it gives you time to get used to the TiVo and its main functions before setting up the full service.br /br /All in all, I'm very, very satisfied with the product and service.

I HAVE OWNED THIS SINCE 2003 WHEN IT CAME OUT. NO PROBLEMS WHAT SO EVER AND WOULD BUY IT AGAIN. HOWEVER, IT WILL NOT PLAY THE NEWEST RELEASES (2007 AND ON) OF SONY DVD RELEASESAS. IT CANNOT READ THE DISK THROUGH THE NEW ANTI-PIRATE TECHNOLOGY SONY IS USING (I HAVE SPOKE TO TOSHIBA CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY ARE NOT MAKING AN UPDATE). BASIC TIVO IS GREAT WITH NO FEE. FACTOR IN BUYING ANOTHER OR KEEPING YOUR CURRENT DVD PLAYER AROUND TO PLAY DVD'S AS THE OTHER COMPANIES ARE PROBUBALLY GOING TO UP THEIR ANTI-PIRATING SOFTWARE SOON TOO.

I've had so many problems with this model that it's embarassing. it was incredibly difficult getting it to use a USB adapter (even according to cust. support), and the clock kept on drifting off so that in 2 months time it was so inaccurate you missed half a 30min sitcom recording (needed to repeat hard reset until it "caught' the right time). once this trick didn't work i returned it for repair, with the refurbished replacement unit not even booting up. i sent that one back too, and just now got a message from toshiba that the unit i sent needs to be replaced as well, and offered me a credit.br /I'm genuinely embarrassed at the time i've spent on this. the ONLY reason i'm spending time writing this is that i'm on hold...to get my refund.

wow. I have to say I'm extremely surprised to read all of the terrible reviews for this DVD player!br /br /I got this thing a little over 4 years ago. I've used it almost daily for that entire time; even went so far as to bring it on tour a couple of times. I've never had a single problem with reading DVDs or VHS cassettes of any kind. Nothing has ever malfunctioned or broken on it, and the thing still purrs like a kitten.br /br /my only two complaints, for the record, are that sometimes the "auto" clock function won't pick up a time signal through cable as it should, and I'm going to have to buy an up-scaling DVD player to accommodate the new HDTV I just bought.br /br /again, this thing has been awesome to me and I'll be sad to see it go.br /br /cheers!br / - Tristan -

br /The DVD/VCR I ordered arrived damaged due to poor packaging,and being dropped by the shipper. The front flange of the cover had sprung out of the front frame. I removed the cover, and seeing no other visible damage, I replaced it properly and installed it. Fortunitly everthing worked, so I decided to keep it, as it replaced my previous identical model, which had failed and could not be repaired. br /summation:Product Perfect, shipping and packaging:Poor

Don't buy Sharp products - Ya-ya - West Covina, CA USA
My machine won't turn on after 10 monthes use which is still under warranty. The customer service told me that I will only pay labor fee to repair the machine but end up I got a 9 bill. I called back to the customer service and they put me on hold for half an hour. When I finally got another person to help me, she said she will find someone else to help me then she put me back to the main selection menu. What kind of customer service is that?

We cannot get this VCR to work. Both my husband and daughter have had no luck setting it up to play or record let alone both. It seems as if it would be easy to use if it worked. I can't help but feel that we are missing something. Since we bought it online, we don't feel as if there is a customer service rep who can walk us through the set-up or answer technical questions.

The machine works fine and has good picture and sound quality. My only beef with it is that it doesn't have a coaxial cable intake port. I must hook it up via the AV game ports, which means I have to go to my TV and change the function from TV to AV every time I want to use the player. My last player had the coaxial plug in and it was wired through my cable box, which meant I could use it with a couple pushes of my remote. It was much easier to use than this machine. I didn't see this in the specs before I purchased it. If I had I probably would have found a different product.

Bad Buy - Ohio Cat - Columbus, OH
Purchased 11/02 - after warranty ran out, unit began eating commercial VHS tapes. After prying tape out of unit, DVD worked, but now that is bad as well - unit continues to shut down automatically. Funai/Sylvania is no help an no service local to my area in Columbus, OH?? Repair probably higher than 5 cost - junk. Ignored the advice not to purchase combos - never again.

I've been using this DVR for over a year now and I love it. It's not perfect by any means but I can't imagine ever going back to using a VCR. The interface is pretty straighforward and easy to use. I found that the response from the remote control it came with was poor and lagged so I bought a universal remote which fixed that problem immediatly.br /br /For about 6 months I used the feature which loads up a tv schedule and lets you pick programs to record. I finally stopped using it because it became too much of a hassle. In order for the DVR to download a tv schedule you have to turn off your DVR and leave it off for many hours. It usually downloaded only at night too. When I want to record something now I just enter in each new program in the recording schedule. I think this is a better way to do it anyway because the DVR would frequently miss the very beginning or end of a program when you pick programs to record from the tv schedule because different tv stations start their programs at slightly different times. When you manually schedule programs you can pick exactly when you want it to start/stop recording resulting in you almost never missing any part of the show.br /br /The system also has frequent bugs and glitches which I have fixed by either turning the power off or simply unplugging it from the wall with no ill effects thus far. It's annoying but since I haven't lost any content because of the bugs or glitches it doesn't bother me that much.br /br /Besides those minor problems I love this DVR. It has definitely made my tv watching experience much more fun and easy and also allowed me to record even more programs than I used to on my VCR. If you are looking for a DVR with NO fees whatsoever that does it's job adequately then this one is for you.

I bought this product brand new (not a refurbished model). Worked for about a year. Put in a DVD and it put up an error sign. Called the service, which said to unplug it and the computer would reset itself. NO such luck! VCR played a bit after the DVD, but error sign kept coming up, interface problem. Now it is completely dead, and I will open the case to hopefully dig out my VHS movie. At 9 dollars, not a good deal for only one year! If you buy this RCA, I strongly suggest getting it where you can purhase a powerful 3 year service warranty. For the one person who has gotten a good deal with this, it is the exception, and congratulations. I had mine about the same time, and out of the blue, kapoot!

Bought this at WalMart about 2 years ago. Started off ok, then the problems started. You never know when you are going to have a problem. The number 1 problem is finding a disk that will work. The stupid system must like the first disk it sees. Every time I try any other disk than the 1st one I used, I spend an hour or two trying to get the system started. Right now I am watching the stupid pile of junk going thru it's menus in slow motion. This started about 4 hours ago. Nothing is easy on this system. I should have taken it back after it stopped working after a few weeks. I got it going again and went thru a few more weeks and it all started again. I will find a new and better one somewhere and then watch this thing burn in a very hot fire in my back yard. I can't wait until then.

This company is a JOKE! No customer service phone and nobody wants to answer my emails either. If the product has a warranty, what good is it if I can't get anybody to answer my calls? By the time I reach somebody it will be out of warranty! The DVD player worked about 2 weeks (max) and we take the top off and put it back on it might work sometimes and sometimes not. What a joke--DON'T buy GoVideo--not worth your money.

I had read in the past Govideo had the worst record when it came to reliabilty and repairs on their products. I also hoped they had since improved their product line. Unfortunately they have not not.br /I bought this unit at Costco for thinking I would at least (at least!) get a decent player for my bedroom. How wrong I was!br /at first everything worked fine and I was happy. The dvd player was a little clunky and noisy, as was the vcr, but it worked and played great.br /After a few months the dvd seemed to get noisier, eventually it stopped playing altogether. I opened the unit and discovered the disc drive was no longer spinning the disc. Manually spinning it would get it going temporarily, but then it would wind down again and stop.br /It now is a spare vcr and I've bought a new dvd/vcr combo player, a Toshiba. At least the vcr is still usable and I didn't really pay more than I would have for a standalone vcr.br /I will not be buying any Govideo products again.br /UPDATE: 11/2009.br /The Toshiba is now history too. Avoid any and all DVD/VCR combos!

The machine is working perfectly so far. The only problem that I have had with it had to do with my not knowing hat tuner-free meant when I ordered it, consequently there is no place to screw the coax into the back. It plays DVD's and Tapes perfectly but that is all that it does. The clock, the timer and all the recording on the VCR does not work at all.This comes from being ignorant of all the changes in the machines.I guess that I will just have to keep bumbling through.

Wow...this unit is a disaster. Had one replaced after six months due to freezing, stopping in midst of recording, pixelating playback, etc....replacement unit (unfortunately, same unit) lasted on and off for a year. Had to unplug most all the time and re-plug (and therefore re-setup) just to get it going. Huge disappointment as I have an ancient JVC DVD/VHS burner combo that has been amazing...talk about a workhorse (although VHS capability died a long time ago). Seems like JVC quality has gone downhill through the years. This product almost ("almost") makes the Samsung counterpart look good (Samsung still takes the prize for inferior DVD units).

JVC stole 0 from me and gave me junk. I can't believe companies can rip you off like this. First: It only records up to six hours a disk, all others record up to ten hours. SECOND: it won't play any of the disks I recorded and FINALIZED in a different player. I have many of these disks. THIRD: the copy protection detector won't let me record anything off of my cable company's movie channels. SO I PAID 200 DOLLARS FOR THIS PIECE OF TRASH THAT WON'T RECORD ANYTHING AND WON'T PLAY MY DVD'S. I DEFINATELY WILL GET MY MONEY BACK OR I WILL SUE THIS COMPANY.

Great features, great price, great picture. Best deal for a VCR w/ upconverting DVD. Can't speak for longevity yet - only have it about a month have used it lightly. I got this dvr as a gift in 12/2005 and it is now 5/2006 and I LOVE it.br /br /I have been transferring my old vhs tapes (about 200+) to the hard drive, deleted commericals, created a playlist and put them on dvds practically every weekend since I got it. Then I go onto a movie database website (imdb.com), search out the movie and copy the description onto a dvd labelmaker for each dvd. I even bought this fantastic dvd binder holder from Walmart that hold 24 dvds in what looks like a book the size of a dvd - 3 "books" in a case, which is a total of 72 dvds. I bought 4 of them so in total I can have 288 dvds in such a SMALL amount of space.br /br /The manual is difficult to understand, so I've basically learned how to use it by going on various websites (Amazon is one) to really learn how to use it.br /br /The playlist is my all time fav thing, although my beginning dvds aren't as good as my current ones. I also love the idea that if I had 3 playlists on a dvd, if I wanted to see the 2nd I could go directly to it instead of rewinding on a vhs. Another great feature is the "Resume" - if I start to watch a show and I have to stop, if I go back to the same show I have the option of either going to the beginning or to resume where I left off. When you finalize the dvd (which you need to do if you want to play the dvd on ANOTHER machine) the different backgrounds you can choose from is a neat feature also.br /br /I tape my daytime soaps on the hard drive instead of vhs which is fantastic and unlike on a vhs tape, I can tape the shows separately and just delete one without touching the other shows - unlike a vhs tape where you have to rewind and either use another tape or tape over.br /br /PROBLEM - The only problem I'm having is being able to tape and watch different shows at the same time - manual is confusing in this regard. The machine froze a couple of times, but all I needed to do was unplug it and it fixed whatever caused the freezing.br /br /Hubby couldn't understand why I wanted the machine, he thinks I'm nuts for even having all my vhs tapes of movies/shows of the past. He even asked me if I indeed have 200 vhs tape, does that mean I'm going to have 200 dvds. I told him probably not, in the sense that with the dvds I can categorize the various movies/shows which you really can't do with the vhs tapes.br /br /The main thing I wanted it for was as a spacesaver, which is something vhs tapes is not. I'm a big Elvis Presley fan, so I showed him my 9 vhs tapes (3 movies on each tape) of his movies right next to the 7 dvds of the movies; no comparison in spacesaving in my opinion - which is what I really wanted.br /br /I highly recommend this machine to anybody who would listen. The cost on the JVC website is absolutely disgusting (,000, please), but hubby went onto another site and got it for a whole lot less.

Quirky, weird machine that has some good qualities... - Blacky - Gotham
All the problems other reviewers have listed here, I have experienced as well. When I first tried to insert a VHS tape - it wouldn't turn on or auto-insert and naturally the tape stuck in the machine. I got this as a refurb and I wasn't about to pay anything more than I already had (5) - so I wrestled with the tape, got it out then repeated the exercise many frustrating times. Finally, for no discernable reason, the machine came to life and I haven't had that problem since. The manual is, to say the best, obtusely written and damn near impossible to follow. If you depend on a cable converter - you will NOT be able to watch one show and record another at the same time. Sometimes the deck will turn on and display "LOADING" on the front panel, then it changes the channel and shuts itself off - which of course is downright strange.br /br /What's good about it? Well - it's relatively easy to program - the recording quality is top-notch and the DVD quality is excellent. It makes flawless VHS dubs (that is, when you can get tapes to load ;-)) All in all, I would only buy this machine to copy my tape collection to DVD. Otherwise, it's a pass.

I bought my DRMX1S and when I recieved it the first thing it did was eat a VHS tape. The company I bought it from sent me a 2nd new one. This one was working fine except for occationally jamming up with VHS tapes. I had to unplug it and plug it in again to get my tape out. Shortly after the warranty ran out I started having problems with the hard drive. I could record things on it but I couldn't edit dub or access anything I recorded. I sent it to JVC for repair and they send me a repair estimate for 0 of which over half was for parts and parts are suppose to be covered for a year. When I called JVC for an explantion I was promised a call back which I never recieved. After I called them a couple of more times they tell me that it was recieved damaged and that was the reason for a parts charge. I tell them I have insurance on the package and they say they will get back to me. I just keep getting a bill for an estimate every week. The repair estimate has a section where it states the unit was recieved in fair condition with no mention of any damage. When the unit worked it was great but for the price it should have lasted longer. I expected more out of what I thought was a quality company. I gave it one star because there isn't anything lower. I will never purchase another JVC product.

I have owned many of these units from Panasonic, Sony, Sanyo, JVC, etc and this is by far the best. It has an excellent VHS unit while others are horrible. Perfect for preserving tapes. The digital tuner works well with QAM cable and off the air. It can read dual layer DVD+R media perfectly. It also has a really nice quality feel to it.

After the warrenty passed the RF output died; only the "individual outputs" worked, ie, the Component Video Outputs.br /br /After a few months I decided to put this machine to another use as a simple tuner. That is when it went it went "crazy." When it powered-up it tried to read a DVD that wasn't present. It continued to open and close the DVD tray every few minutes. Eventually it stopped with the tray open.br /br /That's when I slammed the tray shut. It stopped that behavior.br /br /This machine still displayes "Hello" when it should present something about time or condition.br /br /I'm using this machine at this time only to see Comcast cable on the basic plan.br /br /I haven't shut it off since the "slamming."br /br /In my opinion, this machine is a piece of crap.br /br /

I own a LG Electronics LC797T recording VCR/DVD. It is 18 months old and intermittently would not tune to the selected station on timer record and would record just static. All other functions including playback and manual recording on the VCR and DVD are fine.br /br /Called LG Technical Support and spoke to Daniella who had me try several things and determined that it was most likely the "Tuner" or possibly" a defect in the system". She said to return the unit to LG -Al with Case No. C09070400593 and they would tell me what it would cost to fix.br /br /I sent the unit in the original packaging with a letter and Case No. at a .00 UPS charge and upon arrival I received a call from Mitzi Carruth who asked where was my money order for the testing at .00. They would not tell me what was wrong or costs without paying the fee and since I went this far I gave her my credit card No. She agreed to accept a credit card ( my Chase VISA above).br /br /I then received a call about 10 minutes later stating that the following needed replacement: the main logic board, the VCR logic board, the DVD logic board and the Tuner, all at a cost of 3.+. I expressed my concern that all those functions work (VCR and DVD) and she went back to the technician and they said they needed replacement. I asked how this would be considerably more than the 5 paid when new and the newer replacement unit could be purchased for 5. She said that was it. I asked to have the unit returned un-repaired and asked for the .00 fee to be credited. She stated that it was not their policy to do so. I received the unit back.br /br /I contested the .00 charge and the Credit Card Company received no response to phone calls and messages and I contacted LGs on line support and they would do nothing at all including escalating the issue to management.br /br /NEVER AGAIN WILL I PURCHASE A LG PRODUCT OF ANY TYPE

Very happy that I got to archive my old home VHS to DVD with great results.br /br /Great features:br /This is an excellent entry-level DVD-recorder. The TV Guide feature is the reason to past over Panasonic cheaper brother the E55s which just have the VCR-plus feature. TV Guide is a simpler and free version to TiVo. It has an on-screen menu of the channels including title, time, info and the option to record. Sadly, TV Guide feature only work for antenna broadcasting and basic cable. Digital cable and satellite users might have to invest more money into a TiVo recording device (lack of component input here). br /br /The recording quality is great, which is almost the same or lesser then the original, but never better. I transfer old VHS home video to this device and it was easy with excellent quality. Recording TV programs through the antenna is simple, but the quality depends on your reception. DVD-r is more common then DVD+r. I use XP or SP mode (1-2hrs) for VCR transfer, and LP or EP mode (4-8hrs) for TV program. br /This is one of the most intelligence video devices I have own yet. There are so many option and setting to configure base on your needs. The SD card reader is a nice extra for this device. I have a Panasonic digital camera with a SD card so it is just plug and play. The manual is simple to follow and understand to figure this complex device. br /br /The have not:br /As an entry level recorder would mean this device have less of the advance input features. There are no component inputs which mean you can't recorder from higher quality image. No DV(firewire) input for newer digital camcorder. No hardrive for mix and match recording. The recorder is a 4-stars but the DVD playback is a 3.75-stars. The progressive scan has a lot of settings to customize from, but my Toshisba's DVD is a little smoother. The basic DVD-playback feature is just basic and limited. The old Toshiba has many features as zoom, slow forward, display length of the DVD, which I have yet figure/found. Slow boot time, but that is true to most recorders.br /br /Panasonic quality is great. I have a Panasonic's HDTV for almost a year, a digital camera and they all are working fine with great results. I like Panasonic's pricing which is producing great quality for the price, but they leave out some of the more fancy features and style that Sony has that will jack up the prices. I use Verbatim's Digital Movie DVD-r at 4x and Panasonic's DVD-RAM, anything faster like 8x does not seem to work. br /

"U99" Error Problem.Piece of junk, one can not do anything with this machine in presence of that error code.The Machine has not been even used for any rcording-brand new and I was using Panasonic Brand DVD-Ram.

How smart do I need to be? - on-line time - NYC
Although I have called Panasonic and gotten assistance, after 4 weeks I am still unable to get the on-screen TV Guide to work. I am technology-saavy, and even had a friend help me with the unit. No luck. Programming recording without the TV Guide is fine, but that defeats the purpose of buying this machine.

I have used this product for 1 year and I had no problems what so ever with this product. I use it to play DVDs and MP3 CDs.. with MP3 CDs it allows you to browse folders on TV screen, create playlists etc..so you have more control over songs you play.. If you have S-Video on your TV then you can hook this player directly using S-Video assuring you best of DVD Quality becuase its Digital Direct instead of going through Digital --to Analog conversion using regular RCA Cables.br /br /One thing I liked it that its Remote is universal, it can control your TV also, all you have to do is put your TV Model code and you have single remote for TV and this player.br /br /Overall I liked this player.

works but there are better machines out there - Curious - North Carolina
I have owned this machine for about a year. It plays Videos and CD/mp3's just fine. But it is not the best dvd player. The dvd will skip during play back and it sometimes has choppy playback. I am sticking with the machine for now while I save up for a blue-ray. But don't buy this machine. You can find better ones for a similar price

I bought this at circuit city 2 yrs ago for . It was cheap because of quality of unit. It does work well and I've not lost any tapes or dvd's. Picture quality from this is very fuzzy even if using it as a tuner. Once subtitle are on they stay on, you have to install a different dvd then back to the one you were watching to get subtitles off. The manual tracking doesn't work smooth either when watching tapes. But it does work, better than not having a dvd/vcr player.

overpriced and underperformed - Qball - CA
We paid more than 0 for this piece of junk a couple years back. The remote is really difficult to use, and there are no buttons on the VCR to operate it (beyond PLAY and STOP) without the remote. Worst of all, the VCR died within 2 months and 3 uses. Now it just sits there on the entertainment center, taking up room and reminding us of our wasted dollars.

DO NOT BUY THIS PIECE OF JUNK - L. Dacquisto - USA
The only good thing I can say about this product is that it doesn't weigh much so you don't have to worry about hurting yourself when you throw it against the wall in frustration.br /Neither the VCR nor the DVD player work properly. The VCR has trouble with tracking in spite of the tracking controls on the remote. The DVD has trouble recognizing discs, taking several minutes to load and play a brand new DVD.br /The biggest and most unforgivable design flaw is that the VCR cannot be programmed to record on a timer. You heard me right, the VCR cannot be programmed to record on a timer. br /What was going on in the design team's collective mentality is anybody's guess, but it certainly was not, "Let's design a VCR that people will like." This has been a such standard feature of VCR's since the Beta-VHS wars it boggles the mind to contemplate why anyone would take the time and expense to remove it. Almost as puzzling as why Amazon (and other major retailers) would allow their customers anywhere near this piece of garbage.

Part Workhorse, Part Junk - mrivlin -
This has been my go-to player for video cassettes for years. I use it for hours or timeshift playback on reused tapes each day, and it performs well in that role. But, I do my recording on other VCRs and on DVD recorders. First, the good parts: it has never eaten a tape it was playing; the controls are responsive and accurate, perfect for fast-forwarding through commercials; it receives the remote signal from across the room, even behind a table it I point it to the ceiling. These may seem like minor pluses, but, since I use it just for playback, these are the things that matter most to me and that my other equipment, the ones I record with, fail to deliver. My Panasonics record fine but the fast-forward and rewind are so fast that they are hard to control and the remote has to be within 10 feet and on a direct line. My Mitsubishi also records fine but has for years had a malfunctioning sensor that prevents FF or REW near the beginnings or ends of tapes. My two Sharps and my JVC are long dead, having started eating he edges of tapes or having dead motors or power supplies.br /br /The bad is pretty bad. The DVD player, after about a year, stopped working, then started again. Now, it only works occasionally, so it cannot be counted on. The tuner is also dead. The picture started getting fuzzy after two years and now is all snow. The line inputs work, and the cable box signal goes through the machine to the TV but is not received by the tuner. It's a good thing I no longer need to use this machine to record.br /br /It was cheap and serves my current needs but only because I have other devices to record tapes.

I normally have had good experience with Toshiba products but this combo DVD/VCR has not performed well. DVDs often freeze up. I have a Phillips DVD in another room and it always seems to have little trouble playing DVDs that have be freezing up in the Toshiba. It is nice to have the combo player although you will not be able to copy dvds onto tape due to copy protection.

I've used this recorder (the VCR and the DVD recorder both) for months now and I absolutely love it. Flawless recording, fantastic playback, and perfect recording. My other DVD recorders (a Centrios and an RCA) had so many issues they weren't woth keeping. The other reviewer may have had a bad unit, but needlessly insulting LG as "low end c**p" isn't very helpful.br /br /Remember to use rewriteable DVDs to make nice custom menus for your recordings. You'd be surprised how many editing options you have for your recordings.

Well it lasted until 2009 ... - Leblon Lad - Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Sadly, I must concur with the majority here... My Insignia lasted until late last year and then stopped playing any DVDs. I put it aside for a while and since I have 4 other DVD players, I let it sit. I tried it again in April, and amazingly it played for 2 months and then I started hearing whirring and grinding noises. I think that this is just a cheaply made unit that LG wouldn't even put it's name on. I have several other LG DVD players, one which has lasted over 5 years and another which is still playing very well for more than 3 years. I also have a 47" LG LCD which is working well. I guess we have to stick with the brand names... Into the trash it goes, unless I can find a new DVD drive to place inside. The problems as has been stated before is finding a way to mount the drive as the original drive has a non-standard plastic case with splayed mounts.

I'm not sure if this model is even sold in stores these days but if it is consumers should stay far away. Its a pretty looking machine and delivers pretty graphics on the screen. Its dubbing process is also thankfully simple. The problem I had with my purchase though is that it stopped functioning. br /br /Less than six months after my purchase the DVD side of the machine stopped working. Anything from home made DVDs to top shelf DVD movies purchased from stores would not play in the machine. I tried my best to fix it but nothing I did worked. What was so strange about all of this was that I had probably not even used the DVD side of the machine 20 times before it broke down. A year and a half later the DVD player still doesn't work.br /br /To make matters worth about five months ago the VCR portion started showing problems of its own. Now its unusable too because it eats any tape I place inside. I should point out I have multiple machines and therefore I don't put too much wear and tear on any of my VCR, DVD and DVD/VCR units. Back during the 90s and early 2000s when I taped more television programs, I would use my VCRs in a given week far more than I ever used this Insignia unit. Two of those VCRs are still in working condition in fact. The VCR of the Insignia DVD/VCR unit is not. You do the math. br /br /This is the only unit to have ever given me problems. Maybe I had been lucky all this time and perhaps my luck ran out when I picked up a faulty Insignia unit. But when I see that three of the previous five reviews make similiar claims that I have just made, I tend to lean towards the conclusion that this Insignia product is flawed and untrustworthy. Save your money and spare yourself some grief by passing over this device.br /br /

Hi there, I've owned this DVD recorder for over 2 years now and I love it. Mine was a refurb but you couldn't really tell. I have recorded large amounts of DVD's. I converted tons of VHS movies to DVD and it has never failed. I used to own a Sony recorder and got rid of it after a lil' while because of the large amount of "coasters" that it created. I would've given this DVD recorder 5 stars if it wasn't for those rare occasions where the DVD product shows "tracking" issues that weren't present on the VHS format. At first the unit worked fine. Then it would occasionally freeze up (i.e. none of the controls would work, not even the power button), the only solution being to unplug the power cord and then replug. After a while, it was constantly freezing AND the scheduled recording was no longer reliable. At that point I gave up. Reading other people's reviews of Panasonic DVD recorders, it is clear that mine is not an isolated case. If you are interested in a DVD recorder, I would recommend checking out the Toshiba models. Buying a Panasonic is clearly risky.

After 6 months of using this product I still enjoy the look of it and the quality of image, as well as the possibility of watching dvd, vcd, cable and antenna tv, and even listening to cds on it. It's true that the sound quality and volume are not great, but for a bedroom or kitchen tv the product does just fine. The remote isn't bad at all, lots of functions, settings angles, zoom, etc, all is there, in a card like format, light and it even comes with colors to help identify functions. I have played many dvd formats, including computer burnt stuff, most of them work here, which is a plus for this unit. Overall I'm happy with the product.

This is a pretty good small TV. The image is sharp, the colors bright. The only thing I wonder about is how difficult it's going to be to disconnect the cable. The TV connector turned when I tightened the cable connection and I didn't tighten it any tighter than I've ever tightened any other cable connection. Time will tell.

I purchased this TV because I thought it was a good one for the conversion. There turned out to be many problems with this television. First of all, I could not find an antenna that would allow a clear picture on the 5 stations that the television identified. So on the night of the Academy Awards we set-up the television in the living room and decided to "screen" a DVD on the TV. About an hour into the movie, the DVD player locked up and all we could do was eject the DVD and move into another room to finish watching the movie and subsequently the awarda ceremony. The volume only goes up to 30 which nade the DVD difficult to watch for persons with hearing impediments. I am returning the television, and am going to buy a convertor box.

I was hoping to find a remote for my unit when I came across the reviews and just had to add my two cents worth! Don't remember when, how much or where I bought my system but it's been at least 3 years and no problems at all. I use the VCR the most as I find all the extra stuff on DVD's a waste of time. (Better they add another movie to use up the space!) My only complaint about the MDW2205 (besides not having a remote and that's thanks to a !** burglar!) is that it doesn't play photo CD's. Otherwise. it plays great and I've gotten my money's worth out of it.

This is a great space saver. The DVD player works really well, this DVD player replaced a Toshiba that would not play most DVDs from Netflix if they were the least bit dirty or scratched. This Yamaha DVD player has played every DVD we have put in it flawlessly no skipping or freezing. The main thing about this burner that distinguished it from the others was the ability to play VHS from the Component outputs. That feature is very handy for a pro-editor, like me, who wants to get the best image possible from the inferior VHS format. This feature also has allowed this deck, now that it has been retired, to be easily used by family members who aren't so tech-savvy (both DVD and VHS play from the same Component-Out, so there's no need to change inputs on the monitor). br /br /Other than that, I have to agree with many of the others here. I have been having trouble with the dvd recorder aspect since the first year I bought it. It made loud clunky noises during finalization, and then about half the time lost the data. I used the warranty and sent it in to be fixed. A couple months later, the recorder was unreliable again.br /br /Now the warranty is expired, and I just lost all the data of a program I spent 3 hours recording (and won't be airing again). I've had it. This dvd recorder/ vcr combo is out.br /br /Note I gave it two stars because the dvd player and vcr player work.br /

It takes forever to start up, it freezes once a week (meaning you have to unplug the unit and plug it back in,) switching channels in digital mode works when it wants to. I use to be a fan of Panasonic, after buying this product I have now refused to buy anything Panasonic. I have had this product for over a year now and I'll probably just throw it away. Thought about putting it up on eBay, but I wouldn't give this to my own worst enemy.

Hard to use, in fact we only use it as a player now. We use our PC instead for any video DVD recording. br /br /It is a basically the same as the early to mid year VHS recorders; difficult to program, quirky, the recorded video is not DVD quality, and every time the power goes off the clock starts flashing.

I set this unit up with a Philips PH 61159 modulator. In other words I hooked up the two units to an old TV that only has a 75 ohm F connector on the back. This allowes both a roof antenna and this combo unit to be connected to an older TV doesn't have RCA inputs. This arrangement worked great until the HD switchover. Now I'm going to add an HD converter box until it's time to buy a new television. For playing movies from VHS tapes and DVDs this unit works great. This unit has been light use since December 2008. No issues.

Defective after three years. - A. Ryder -
I have a slightly different model, but in essentials I believe it is the same player as this one. I noticed other users also posted that they had this problem, and some earlier than others! I've hardly tried to play any VHS tapes on it at all, but recently (after three years of satisfied ownership) I tried to play a VHS tape with it and it "kindly but stubbornly" refused. This appeared to cause a further glitch to the system in that now, when I try to play DVDs, it will play them for a few minutes until the whole thing will shut itself off (usually after the VCR makes some angry clicks and whirs.) After that it will not work for even a few more seconds again without unplugging the machine for a couple of minutes, but even then it will only play DVDs for a few minutes more-- 10 minutes at the most-- before shutting down again.br /br /It is very frustrating and I am currently dismantling it for fun before I throw it away. I would have hoped it would last as long as my old combo DVD player; I can't remember the model but it lasted at least ten years. Too bad this one couldn't cut it.

I bought this recently at a Best Buy and was terribley dissapointed when I found out that there was no s-video for the vcr and the only way to have the vcr and dvd player share the same output was to use composite, and so after setting up this unit to two different inputs (one for composite and the other for component) I tried watching a movie on dvd and found that this unit responds almost instantly to commands from the remote and the unit only makes sounds when it's reading the disc. For the vcr, it plays fine, but since I only need it to play vhs tapes, I haven't tried recording anything, so I wouldn't know about that.br /br /It's a great dvd player, but so-so as a dvd-vcr combo.

This worked fine under light use for 5 months, then started eating tapes. Full warranty is for 90 days, so I figured I'd have to send to service center and pay something for Toshiba to repair or replace. Could not find the service center going through the Toshiba site, so I called Toshiba customer service between 9 and 5 as directed and got the runaround for over an hour ... could access how to get my tape out, but never how to get Toshiba to honor the partial warranty for months 4-12. Finally threw the thing away. I will not buy Toshiba again.

I have had this combo vcr/dvd for several months and I have found that I never use it. When I want to watch anything I use my regular dvd player. This unit is useless. It will not play VCD disks, and when you play regular DVD's it will have trouble reading them half way through so you have to take out the dvd and watch the rest of the movie on another player. It is also very poorly programmed. If you click the Still/Pause button on some disks then try to resume, it will tell you it cannot play the disk but it was playing the same disk just fine before I pressed pause. I am throwing this one out. It does not play all standard formats, it is unreliable, and I have never been able to watch a full movie on it.

The thing did well for a while. It has no tuner, but you can run cables from other places. The dvd player often stops in the middle of the movie and no way can I restart it. Other times, it displays just snow. I thought it was a bad dvd but the disk works fine on other players. Toshiba had problems with this a while back, but it is still junk. This will be my last Toshiba product.

Works, but slow, klunky user controls - wouldn't buy again - M. M Magliaro - Philipsburg, PA United States
I bought this to have a means to play CDs, DVDs and VCR tapes in one compact box. I haven't even used the record function, and probably never will. I just wanted a VCR drive in there to play any "legacy" tapes I still have lying around.br /br /It works. The picture quality is good. But...br /br /1. When you insert a CD or DVD, it takes the drive a long time to figure out which it is and start to play it. I'd say about 30 seconds, and that is unacceptable.br /br /2. Once it recognizes a CD, it automatically starts to play it. Often, I don't want it to do that. I want it to just load and be "ready", and let me possibly skip to the track I want. With the "auto play all the time" behavior, I constantly have to make sure the volume is down, stop it, advance it, turn the volume back up... AWKWARD.br /br /3. The front panel controls are very limited. There is no pause button, and the FF/RWD CD controls advance through the current song, but there is no separate "skip" button. The remote control has all these functions, but I loathe devices that depend on the remote control as the only source of certain important functions. That has been the trend to cut costs on these cheap units, because front panel controls are expensive compared to putting them on a remote.br /br /I also don't like the "standby" type of power switch. How about just "On/Off".br /br /In short, there are too many hidden/automatic/nonavailable/weirdly labeled things about this that make it awkward to use. I will probably never buy a combo drive in the future if I can help it, even if I have to hunt down generations-old devices on eBay to get a separate CD player, separate DVD player, and separate VCR. They work much better that way and have controls that humans intuitively understand.

Really Disappointing - J. Myles -
I believed that Panasonic products were of the highest quality until I got the Panasonic DMR-EZ37S DVD Recorder/VCR combination. I have high end Digital cable and a HDTV. I hooked up the Panasonic and let it go through setup. Although I had to set the clock manually the setup seemed to go smoothly. All the channels were there and the digital quality was good, but not as good as going directly into the HDTV. br /br /I recorded a TV show to DVD to watch later and everything seemed to be working well. Days later, I tried to play back the DVD-R recording. The Panasonic DMR-EZ37S took a while to read and load the DVD then it started to play. About five minutes into the DVD it froze up. I pushed the play, stop, pause and the off button on the remote and nothing happened. I went to the manual and there was a solution. Open the front panel and push the "RESET" button. The thought of a Panasonic having a reset button on the front of the product made me feel a little disappointed. It would appear that lock-ups on the DMR-EZ37S and other Panasonic DVD players occured so often that Panasonic engineers put a reset button in a convenient place. I wondered why they didn't just fix the lock-up problem. br /br /But setting that fear aside, I pushed the play button on the remote and the DVD-R started to play. Again 5 minutes into the DVD-R, that had been recorded on the Panasonic DMR-EZ37S, it locked up. I went through the reset process four times then decided to check the DVD-R. I am an computer engineer, so after pushing the RESET one more time and waiting for the player to initialize, I took the DVD out of the HIGH PRICED Panasonic DMR-EZ37S and moved it to a CHEAP Memorex DVD player to test the DVD-R. The DVD-R played without problem in the very inexpensive Memorex DVD player. Logically, the problem was the Panasonic DMR-EZ37S. br /br /I contacted Panasonic "Customer support" and they suggested that I ship the unit to them, at my own expense, and they would "REVIEW" the problem. After much heated discussions, I gave up and contacted JR, the vendor who sold me the unit. br /br /JR politely informed me that I was passed the return period. Technically they were right. I bought the Panasonic DMR-EZ37S in early December as a Christmas present for my wife. We did not attach it to the TV until late January. But TECHNICALLY I was outside of the 30 day return period. I asked if I could return the Panasonic DMR-EZ37S for credit on another purchase and was politely told NO. Seems to me that JR could have understood the situation and kept a customer. If I had bought the unit from Costco, I could have returned it without any problem. br /br /So I have a really cool Digital DVD Recorder/VCR Combination that quite often will not play the DVD's that it records. br /br /Therefore, after years of owning Panasonic products, it pains me to have to say --- "Panasonic is SLIGHTLY behinds its time". After reading the reviews of people who had problems with their Panasonic models locking up, I have to say "If you are looking for a DVD Recorder VCR Combination, or any other DVD player, I would recommend that you look away from Panasonic". br /br /br /br /br /

Doesn't play burned DVDs-- even those burned using the machine - Lisa M. Drayton - ny, ny United States
I bought this in October of 2007 and by summer it ceased playing the very dvds I'd burned from VHS using the unit. Customer service sent me a disc to run which eliminated all dvd playing capacity. I returned it at a cost of (i.e. the cost of a new but less "prestigious" dvd player) and they sent me another one. Nine months later it too stopped playing burned dvds. Now I use it only for manufactured dvds and vhs and am currently shopping for a player compatible with burned media.br /br /If anyone has a recommendation I would appreciate it.

No frills unit and works fine. Go Video is a brand that was the first to push the VHS/DVD mix into their units. I have never had a problem with my unit and it was purchased in early 2005. It would be better if it was a little quieter while playing DVDs but that is minor. For the money, you can't go wrong.

Have had this for several years. The player actually works okay for both VCR and DVD use. br /br /However, the remote control is so poorly designed, I rarely use the unit. The buttons are small, and as another reviewer commented, pressing menu takes you back to the main setup, and you have to start over. It's too bad, because as I said, I have had no technical issues with the DVD play, VCR play, or memory card. You will regret buying this unit. I use component hookup for my DVD, and have the sound connected to a Sony receiver control center. No technical issues at all. Still only a one. What a horrible remote.

I purchased this because it appeared to be compatible with all formats of dvds including DVD+R-DL. It was. The problem was that it was difficult to control. The fast-forward and next-chapter were the same button and you had to remember whether you wwere to punch it once or hold it down. After a few months, I gave it to the Salvaton Army and bought another Sony.

First off, I love the character designs- identical to 'Boobalicious' and 'Midnight Sleazy Train'. There's not much of a story here-horny housewives, blah,blah. But I can't deny the scenes are very well done and the English dub works for me. My only gripe is I'm used to hentai with more than 2 girls-no variety. Still it's a good buy and it's better than most titles out now.

I have seen negative reviews on this product but I still went ahead and bought it because I thought even if these reviews were correct that the offering was too good to miss.br /br /The negative reviews stated the followingbr /1) The DVD drive gives out a constant whine that is so loud you can hear it over the TVbr /2) The PC link software is rubbish it doesn't work and they had to use windows media connect.br /3) The box will crash on occasion and you have to power cycle it.br /4) The wireless capability is limited you need to have your access point right next to the DP-600br /5) It has no Hard drivebr /br /In answer to 1 br /I suspect that this person had a faulty drive,Tinitus or is using it as a pillow because I can't hear anything lout of the ordinary let alone over the tv.br /br /In answer to 2br /I had my Kiss DP-600 up and running and streaming content from my PC Over wireless using PC link in under 10 minuts. It was very easy I didn't even read the instructions. If you are having problems with PC Link download the latest version from the Kiss site and make sure that your firewall is not blocking it. If you are using Win XP SP2 remember that windows firewall is on by default.br /br /In answer to 3br /This box has played everything that I have thrown at it. Things that my old DP-500 couldn't play. If you put something in to the DP-600 that it can't handle and it crashes powere cycle it and either look for an update or don't play unsupported formats. remember also that the people who encode the media that you are downloading don't always know what they are doing. I had this problem with my old DP-500 but I would power cyle and not play that file. I'm sure that you will have the exact same issues on other similar products. For the price I can live with it.br /br /In answer to 4br /I live in an old Victorian house my TV is in one room and my Wireless router another, there is probably 15 meters between the Router and my DB-600 and a Brick wall. I have 95 % signal strength. need I say more.br /br /In answer to 5br /If you are streaming content why do you need a hard drive? it has wireless and an ethernet port. But if you are that fussed about it, there is also a USB port so you can connect an external Hard drive if you want tobr /br /I love this product, I loved the DP-500 and Old as it was it still out performed any of my firends dvd players. The DP-600 is light years ahead of the DP-500 which to my mind and from my personal experience makes it the best that you can buy for the money.br /br /Ease of Use Very Easy br /Ease of Installation Very Easy br /Remote Control Excellent Quality br /Instructions Very Helpful / Very Easy to Understand br /br /Buy it you wont be dissappointedbr /br /br /br /

The new KiSS DP-600 is based on the KiSS DP-500 DVD with full DivX®, XviD, MPEG-4, MP3, Ogg Vorbis, JPEG... playback, Ethernet. On top of these functions the DP-600 adds playback for two new formats from Microsoft: WMA and Windows Media 9 files allowing Video On Demand. These new features put the KiSS DP-600 in the middle of the home-computer-cinema solution. Thanks to its Ethernet connection, enabling Kiss PC-Link, the Kiss DP-600 can stream Audio/Video/Picture files found on a connected PC. The connection can also be done wireless with a PC Card and Access Point (sold separately), as the DP-600 also has a PC Card slot on its back. It provides an 802.11g wireless connection to the player which permits the streaming for video files. Those network connections also enable KiSS Web Radio to be played from the DP-600, if this one is connected to a broadband Internet connection. KiSS PC-Link gives the user the possibility to store Audio/Video/Picture content on its optional 80GB or 120 GB Hard Disk. This content can then be viewed or browsed from the player. This gives the advantage of having a collection of multimedia files all stored on the KiSS DVD Player... at a finger tip. As all the other KiSS DVD Players, the DP-600 is also firmware upgradeable.

Disappointing array of Features - Logistiker - Las Vegas, NV
This thing has been vaporware for as long as I can remember and now if it comes out this summer, it won't have near the options it should have. It doesn't have SMB support (windows directory sharing), it can't show GIF images, it has no Linux support, no FLAC support, no AAC support, no playlist support (i.e. m3u, asc, etc), no confirmed multiregion support (albeit someone will probably figure it out). It has some redeeming features like tv listings and games (who would want to play games on their tv anyway?). For the kind of money you'll have to pay for this thing (selling for 5 in the UK right now), the feature list falls quite short. Do yourself a favor and look into the competition (Zensonic z500) which provides (shipping internationally from AU or from US in July 2006) all the above support and more minus the TV listings (not that you'd use that anyway because you're really using this to watch time shifted programs from your server computer anyway right?).

When you buy a refurbished unit,you never know what you are getting...Sometimes returned or damaged units are repacked,and sent off to the next customer...At times a product is damaged in shipping,hence a unit is received doa,with broken parts,thanks to shippers throwing the box around 10 feet from the truck to the sidewalk smashed...In other words buying reburbished is a roll of the dice at best...This is my experience with reburbished products,including the dmr-75VS...My unit works well and,makes excellent copies,and easy to use...I bought the unit reburbished,only because,they ran out of new units,as the unit was rated quite well in consumer reports...MY advice is "only buy this from a dealer with a good return -refund policy."

Straight out of the Box and Not working! - Vern Poore - Indio Ca
Straight out of the box, I could NOT open the DVD tray! So after several br /tries, I called for the proper paper work to mail it back! Had a hard time finding an UPS location that would accept it for the FREE shipping!br /Now, I'll wait for it's return! br /

Had no problem hooking the unit up with my satelite receiver or the TV. But right off the remote would not work and like the manual stated, I replaced the batteries three times, still no luck. So, right away I sent a e=mail to Panasonic for help. After the third time, I sent a e=mail to USADEPOT, (this is where the machine was shipped from) Still no response. I was able to play VHS and DVDs. However, since no remote, when the phone would ring, wouold have to push the stop button on the face of the unit. Afer the phone call, pushed the start button, the movie started but then froze just as if I had pushed the "pause" and the only way to continue was to eject the DVD and start all over. With the lack of customer support, this is the last Panasonic I will purchase.

4 stars because it's too complicated to use its full potential (for me). I never tried refurb before but the price discount was too good to pass up. Speedy delivery, well packaged, and no problems to date. I just need a geek to help me use it correctly. I will buy from them again.

be aware of what you buy - D. Dryer - Park Falls, WI, US
I would not recomend this product, I purchased this item on line at the beginning of December for Christmass when it arrived and was hooked up I could not get the vcr section to work so I contacted phillips support the person it talked to asked me to try a couple of thing concluded that the vcr section was broken. (Their went christmas) So he had a replacement unit sent to my location. When I hooked up the and found the new unit vcr would not work this is when they informed me that their had to be a seperate hook up for the vcr becaue the vcr would not come in on the ant. to the back of my tv. which by now I had the cable box going to one location and dvd section to another location on the back of the TV so now I was out of location on my television. was forced to go out a purchase a special adapter to allow the VCR to come into the TV. After the addition purchase I was able to get the unit to funtion (I never went to school to be an Engineer). The VCR has a very poor quality recorder. We trying following the book but was very confussing and some of it was out of date. We have tried time recording the last couple of day and found the unit has cleared it memory 2 time by resetting the clook and date to a time a date in the past (3 or four months). I would not recomend the unit for us by anybody not even a person I disliked. If I was to purchase anothe electronic device i believe Phillips would be on the bottom of the list.

Crashed but Outlet Honored the Refund - W. Dees - UP There USA
I owned an earlier version of this recorder that I still use and have had minimal problems over a two year period. This item was ordered as a refurbished machine but crashed within 24 hours after I started to use it. Thus, there is little I can say about it. This review is more about the 3rd party vendor that sold it to me. Over the course of three days with some starts and stops in communication the vendor (Outlet based in CA) honored the return and expedited my refund. They also refunded my shipping charge in full so that I lost only my time spent in setting up, breaking down, repackaging and getting it to the UPS store. If I see their name again when ordering something I would not hesitate to do business with them again, because I know that the risk would be diminished by their business practices.
